Why Supporting Independent Creators Matters (And What It Unlocks)

Building an independent platform for original software, non-violent simulation games, and creative video content takes focus, time, and ongoing investment. When you back Swagnilla Ice, your support does far more than just keep the servers running and help cover basic living expenses. Once foundational bills, loans, and everyday costs are handled, every single dollar goes directly back into expanding the platform and creating better tools, games, and features for everyone.

Here is a look at what community support directly makes possible, along with the new features currently being built for the platform.

What Support Unlocks for the Community

Developing native desktop applications, designing complete game mechanics, and producing consistent content requires dedicated time away from temporary contract work. Direct support allows for uninterrupted progress on long-term software builds, upgrades to dev hardware, and reliable hosting for web services and store integrations.

As the supporter base grows, financial backing will bring several major additions directly to the platform:

  • Exclusive Member Arcades: Building custom, web-accessible arcade games integrated directly into the site. Paid members gain full access to a dedicated arcade category featuring original titles built specifically for the community.
  • Community Event Calendar: Introducing a centralized calendar to track upcoming stream schedules, video series releases, software launch dates, and community activities.
  • Community Classifieds Area: Setting up a dedicated classifieds section where members can connect, share project updates, and post listings within the community.
  • Accelerated Software Lineup: Dedicated time to code, test, and package new standalone games and utility applications available directly in the shop for Linux Mint and Windows.
  • 10% Member Shop Discount: As a thank-you for supporting platform growth, all paid members receive an automatic 10% discount on every item in the shop outside of membership subscriptions—including software releases, games, and digital products.

How You Can Support My Independent Work

You can join the community at whichever level fits best:

  • Standard Subscriber (Free): Register on the blog for free to follow updates, read public development logs, and stay tuned for main announcements.
  • Paid Member ($5/month or $50/year): Unlocks full access to the paid area of the Discord server, commenting privileges on the blog, a permanent custom sign in the community Minecraft worlds, access to the upcoming member arcade games, and an automatic 10% discount on all store software and products. Yearly members also receive a hand-made card sent directly to them as a token of appreciation.
  • Ko-fi Tips: Giving me a tip on Ko-fi is a great way for you to support me, help me get to goals faster (like a new computer to replace my ten year old one), and not be locked into a subscription, unless you choose to set it up there to tip me every month (and if you do, thank you!). These tips do not give you any extra benefits here on this blog and community website though.

Upcoming Software Launch

I’m also pleased to announce that my first piece of paid software (an amazing game for both Windows and Linux that I hope you will love) is almost done being programmed. I just got a few bugs to squash, and a couple of tests before I will declare it ready for sale. You can expect it hopefully by the end of next week, unless major distractions happen to me (like temp jobs which drain my energy). If you choose to support me, I’ll be able to spend more time developing games like this one in the future!

Every registration, purchase, and membership tier helps build a stronger, completely independent hub for software and media. Thank you to everyone who has read, shared, or backed the project so far—your support makes every line of code and piece of content possible.
